Our Institutional Logo and Chosen Institution
1. To start creating our institution we start with a plain black background the reasons for this are the connections that the audience will make between the colour black and the horror genre. 2. To achieve the wording on our logo we looked on dafont for a font that would be effective on a horror logo and we chose the toxic powers font because we felt that this font would be appropriate. 3. to achieve this we took the text into Photoshop and inverted the colours we did this so that the text looked effective against the black background. the black and white concept comes from the idea that a lot of horrors use black and white scenes to add tension. 4. the next thing that we had to do was find an image of an old house that looked mysterious and would fit into the horror genre after finding an image we then found a tear drop shape and placed it around the image because this could also represent a blood drop. 5. to finish with we feather the outside of the logo using the eclipse shape and then applying a feather the feather adds a sense of mystery to the logo. |
Initial Ideas
Idea 1:
A young couple move over from Italy to England, when moving in, the male in the relationship, notices abnormal happenings in the new house, but, the first time he goes upstairs and sees an old wardrobe, upon opening this wardrobe he slips over nothing, he opens the wardrobe, and there is a doll that represents a girl hanging from a noose in there, he rushes down stairs and outside to the delivery van, when he notices his wife talking to the family across the road, they have a young girl, who looks very much like the doll, and does nothing but stare at this young Italian man. He rushes his wife in to the house, takes her upstairs to show her the wardrobe, on arrival to the bedroom, the wardrobe has disappeared.
Idea 2:
A homeless guy, living under a subway underpass. This homeless man wants to be a normal guy, but every day, he suffers abuse and disruption from the public every day, from people spitting at him to physical abuse. This bullying victim finally snaps, he goes out on a killing rampage, targeting those who first got him into that position; killing them in very extreme ways (e.g. slowly making them bleed to death whilst the next victim watches.) This could be portrayed as a psychological horror
Idea 3:
Parents leave their young son home alone, a few hours after leaving home to go out the parents, ring home to see how their son is, though it was not the son who answers the phone, a man with a deep dark voice answers, at first, they thought they have dialed a wrong number, so they ring again, the phoneline is now dead, worried, the parents go home, to find the front door wide open, a blood trail heading to the kitchen, by the house phone a note that says “it was i who answered” was there, the husband noticed that in the wife's back was a knife. Upon trying to leave the house, the husband has three darts impaled in his chest, not a soul was about to witness or commit such a crime.

Props
Doll
The use of dolls in horror films is very popular as it provides the film with merchandise and a rememberable prop for the audience. Films that have done this include 'Childs Play' and 'Saw'. The look of the doll also differs from each film, for example the doll featured in 'Child Play' resembles a clown type character crossed with the average toddlers (freckles and clothing) whereas the doll/puppet featured in 'Saw' is entirely unique, the red swirls on the cheeks where the iconic feature of the doll. The props that the doll may have also provides the audience with a lasting memory of the film. Again using the examples of 'Childs Play' and 'Saw'. In 'Childs Play' Chucky spends most of his killing screen time with a standard kitchen knife with a black handle, this was a every item that became Chucky's iconic murder weapon. Also in 'Saw' Jigsaw rides a tricycle which is heavily linked with his characters as it features the same swirls on the wheels as his cheeks. Finally the dolls signature actions/ phrases also makes for branding for the films doll. Chucky has his signature run with his knife is the air with the tip pointing towards the ground or the victims back. Chucky's run can be seen as comical as his short legs provides a bobbing movement. Jigsaw also has his signature phrase whenever the victim is played the tape informing them of the situation they are in. 'I want to play a game....', this became the film series signature phrase.
Wardrobe
We need a wardrobe that is aged and looks to be of a similar time period to the doll so that the story is more realistic. we need to make sure that we need to make sure that it fits int its surroundings as much as possible.
The box
The boxes are used to show the couple are moving in together and are starting fresh in a new house which they will not know that much about. The boxes will give the character(s) an incentive which will require them to go upstairs. This lets the opening go on and creates the scene for the haunting of the little girl. Although this is a simple prop in the opening of our dil it plays a vital role in creating the image that the couple is new to the area and therefore helps to establish the atmosphere and this prop is also practical because it is easy to get hold of and because of its size will be a noticeable prop in the shot.
Rope
The rope will be in a slipknot noose that will be found hanging in the wardrobe with the doll on the other end. This gives a sense of what is too come and it also gives a sense of the genre which is horror.
Costumes
The Victorian outfit will play a huge part in our opening, This is what the DOLL shall be wearing, this is essential to our production as this is what makes the doll look a lot older, and more unusual. The unusually of a situation is what normally scares a person. And we are going for the victorian look due to the victorian theme working well in the film annabelle. This costume needs to be spot on with our film, this is because the more traditional victorian we get, the connotations of the doll will come out more, this is because if the doll looks too modern, it will not be as unsual as something that looks of a greater age, and will not have the same effect on the viewer.
Location
Our location is cast at Ryans house. We picked this location because his house has all of the essentials that we need for our horror opening inside it. His house reinforces the normal essence of our horror opening so people think that what happens in the film could happen to them, this then scaring them even more.
